Cheburashka’s many charms
Cheburashka’s contents vary from picture books, TV animation, to theatrical stop-motion animation. One of his biggest appeals is that he could change the color of his body whenever he wants. Cheburashka’s charms, continued from his inception in 1967, makes future long term marketing possible. SMC has started the licensing of Cheburashka in 2013, and various aspects of merchandize are being developed, spearheaded by publication and plush toys.
He was accidentally delivered from a tropical forest to Russia in a crate of oranges. Cheburashka himself is curious as to where he came from and how. His body is like a cub and has massive ears. If you had to know, he’s a boy, but he’s always 5 so it matters little. He slowly explores the world around him with Gena the crocodile. Cheburashka is a smart kid who knows the world becomes a better playground the less you worry about things.
He’s a lonely crocodile who works at a zoo as an attraction, then goes back home in the evening. A young crocodile (50, but relatively young considering crocodiles live up to 300 years), his name comes from a common Russian name Gennady. He likes to play the accordion and sing along, and his song <Such a pity that one’s birthday happens only once a year> is widely sang in Russia as a happy birthday song.
On the day Cheburashka and Gena became friends, Galya appears with a stray dog. She wants to become an actress for the local children’s theatre.
Masha wants to be a tightrope artist at the circus. Gena unconditionally helps Masha, and Cheburashka helps in ways he can.Could she really be a tightrope artist despite Šapokliak’s antics?
Donning an old outfit and hat and carrying a pet rat called Lariska (лариска) in her bag, she fills the role of an evil character. She a character who always gets in the way of children’s hopes and dreams, and although she fails as she trips and falls, her villainy almost has a creed of sorts.
Lev Chandr (лев чандр)
Cheburashka and Gena’s best friend Lev Chandr is quiet and calm, but he also couldn’t hide his cowardice like when he couldn’t stop hiccups if he’s spooked. He’s a complex character who both shows solemnity and softness
