· Tove Jansson

Tove Jansson is born on August 9th, the eldest child of an artistic family. Tove studies art both in Finland and abroad and she starts making Moomintroll paintings. Her first Moomin-like character is later seen in the magazine Garm in 1943.
Tove Jansson is doubtless one of the best Finnish artists of all time and also the most widely read Finnish author abroad. Her lifework is an immeasurable valuable because of the success she made as a writer, artist and as a cartoonist. She was a multi-talented artist who is mostly remembered as a creator of the Moomins. The Moomin books have been translated into about fifty languages.
In addition to the Moomin books and comics she received recognition for her short stories and novels. Tove Jansson´s world fame is also recognisable because she succeeded to write for both children and adults at the same time.

· The Story of Moominvalley

The first Moomin story – The Moomins and the Great Flood – was published by Söderström & Co in Swedish. It is the story about Moominmamma’s and Moomintroll’ssearch for the missing Moominpappa and how they found their way to the Moominvalley. Moomin story is about his family and friends in Moominvalley. In 1954, the world’s largest newspaper- London’s The Evening News – starts to publish the Moomin comic strip, which reaches up to 20 million readers daily in over 40 countries. Fuji TV Zuiyo Enterprises produces an animated Moomin series in Japan and the Moomins become very popular there. In 1990, 104 half-hour Moomin animations were produced and it was sold to over 60 countries. In 2015, it was 70 years anniversary of Moomin and there were worldwide special events to celebrate the anniversary throughout the year.
